After nationalisation many
railway ancillary services were separated by the British Transport
Commission from the railways into
separate companies. We tell the story of some of these companies and
railway ancillary services in this section.
Since the 1960s there has
been a gradual break up of British Rail and privatisation of its
various activites. This culminated in the complete privatisation of the
railways in the mid 1990s. This is the story of some of the former BR
subsidiaries.
